How To Prepare For LASIK Laser Eye Surgery

After your initial LASIK consultation, Dr. Shobha Tandon and her expert staff will provide you with a thorough list of surgery prerequisites. Every patient is unique and could have different requirements to prepare for surgery.  

You may be prescribed prescription eye drops to be used leading up to your LASIK procedure. Some patients are required to stop wearing contacts for up two weeks prior to surgery. It is also common to provide a surgical clearance form signed by your primary care physician prior to the procedure.

What To Expect The Day of Your LASIK Laser Eye Surgery

You should plan on being at NeoVision Eye Center for about two hours on the day of your surgery. You should arrive one hour prior to your appointment to prepare for your surgery.

LASIK Pre-surgery Prep:

  • A nurse will chart your vitals
  • Your pupils will be dilated
  • You will be provided numbing anesthetic eye drops

You will remain awake during your LASIK surgery, which will last anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. If you feel any discomfort during the procedure, our skilled eye surgeon will provide additional medication. Most patients at NeoVison Eye Center report no pain throughout their surgery.

What Happens During LASIK Laser Eye Surgery

LASIK Step 1:
Dr. Shobha Tandon will use a state of the art laser to create a flap in the corneal tissue of your eye.

LASIK Step 2:
With the Excimer laser, Dr. Tandon reshapes the surfaces of your cornea, to correct your vision impairment.

LASIK Step 3:
Your natural corneal tissue to laid back in place where it will heal naturally without the need for stitches.

Once your LASIK procedure is completed, we will monitor you for up to 30 minutes to ensure you are on the right track to optimal recovery. A predetermined friend or family member will be responsible for driving you home after your surgery.

Recovering From LASIK Laser Eye Surgery

After returning home from surgery, most patients experience a bit of discomfort as the anesthetic wears off. Dr. Tandon will provide lubricating eye drops to help combat any discomfort following your LASIK vision correction procedure. We will also provide a protective eye shield you will be required to wear while sleeping.

Within a couple of days of your procedure, you will return to NeoVision Eye Center for a follow-up consultation. We will evaluate your vision and examine your recovery and healing symptoms.
